Step One:
Heat up your stove on Medium heat and using a large saucepan, mix together the ingredients above (tomato sauce, wine vinegar, the ketchup, molasses, butter, and liquid smoke. Next you want to add the seasonings into the saucepan (chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon, paprika, salt and pepper, and cayenne pepper.
Note on Cooking for Kids: The cayenne pepper and chili powder might be to hot for children to handle in this barbecue sauce recipe. If you are cooking for kids as well as adults, then only add a pinch of the chili and cayenne.
Step Two:
Once all the ingredients are in the saucepan, reduce the heat down to low and allow the mixture to simmer for about 20 minutes. If you want the sauce to be thicker, then simmer for longer at least 20 minutes, but preferably a little bit longer. If you want the sauce to be thinner then simmer for less than 20 minutes. One could also add a little bit of water to the mixture in order to thin it out a bit.
Step Three:
When you achieve the sauce thickness that you desire, remove from the heat and let it sit. Brush the barbecue sauce onto your meat within the last 10 minutes of barbecuing.
